(Des Moines, IA) – On Saturday, July 30, Des Moines University hosted a free, comprehensive Health Fair and provided 331 free school and sports physicals for Des Moines area students.
DMU partnered with the Iowa Heart Center and other concerned organizations to host the fair on the DMU campus in the Medical Education Center (MEC), located at 3200 Grand Avenue in Des Moines. The health fair was open to all elementary, middle and high school age children who live within a 30-mile radius of Des Moines.
At the health fair, each child received an EKG to look for electrical abnormalities of the heart and then underwent a complete physical examination. If abnormalities were detected by the EKG, the child had an echocardiogram performed onsite. If a child underwent all of these services, he or she received up to $1,000 in free medical care.
