Des Moines University to be given well workplace award

(Des Moines, IA) – For the third year in a row, Des Moines University will be recognized for excellence in worksite health promotion by the Wellness Council of Iowa, which will recertify DMU as a Gold Well Workplace. This award recognizes an organization for its commitment to the health and well-being of employees.

The Well Workplace awards are based on seven benchmarks: concentrating on senior-level support, creating cohesive wellness teams, collecting data to drive programming efforts, crafting an operating plan, choosing appropriate interventions, creating a supportive environment and consistently evaluating outcomes.

Seven Iowa employers will be recognized for excellence in worksite health promotion on Thursday, September 29, 2005 at a luncheon ceremony from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. during the 15th Annual Conference on Worksite Wellness. The luncheon will be held at the Iowa Events Center – HyVee Hall, 730 3rd Street, Des Moines, Iowa.

DMU, and the other six employers, are added to a list of America’s Healthiest Companies, as judged by the Wellness Councils of America and the Wellness Council of Iowa. Companies participated in a comprehensive application process and were measured against national standards.

The seven organizations to be honored include Des Moines University, Genesis Medical Center (Davenport), Great River Health Systems (Burlington), Iowa Health Des Moines, Mercy Medical Center Sioux City, Pella Corporation and Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Four designations of the Well Workplace Award are currently offered: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Des Moines University has held the Gold designation since 2002.
