(Des Moines, IA) –Des Moines University (DMU) will award degrees to 341 graduates at its 106th commencement exercises on Saturday, May 27, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the Polk County Convention Complex, 501 Grand Avenue in Des Moines.
Students will receive a Doctor of Osteopathy, Doctor of Podiatric Medicine, Doctor of Physical Therapy, Master in Public Health or Master in Healthcare Administration degree.
The featured speaker at the ceremony is New York Governor George Pataki. Currently in his third term as governor of New York, Pataki has been on the forefront of many health care issues, including an initiative to reduce tobacco use in New York.
A Republican, Pataki reduced New Yorkers’ taxes, encouraged new jobs and reformed the state’s welfare system. Pataki also led his state through the September 11, 2001 tragedy.
Born on June 24, 1945, George Pataki is married to Elizabeth (Libby) Pataki; they have four children. Before becoming governor, he served in the state’s legislature and was the mayor of his hometown, Peekskill, New York.
