CNNMoney favored several careers often filled by Des Moines University grads for the recent “Best Jobs in America” report.
With a Physician Assistant Program, Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program and programs in Public Health and Health Care Administration, Des Moines University prepares students for five of the nation’s top jobs.
The MONEY Magazine and Salary.com survey was based on average salary, estimated 10-year job growth, stress, flexibility, difficulty and creativity.
#5—physician assistant
The survey ranks physician assistant as the fifth-best job in the country. Physician assistants are also listed as the most in demand, they were picked as the fastest-growing field in the country.
Job growth over the next 10 years is estimated at 49.65% — an exciting fact for students in DMU’s Physician Assistant Program.
#12—physical therapist
Not far behind on the list of best jobs, at #12, is physical therapy. With an average pay of $54,883, this profession is expected to grow to 211,316 jobs by 2014.
#28—health services manager
Several spots later is health services manager, often filled by someone with a master’s degree in public health or health care administration. At #28, this position includes an average pay of $92,211 with 10-year growth projected at 22.76%.
#30—physician/surgeon
Physicians and surgeons are ranked at #30 but rank second for highest-paying career with an average salary of $247,536. By the year 2014, the field will have grown 23.98%, the survey predicts.
