International sleep apnea expert to speak at DMU

Des Moines University will host an international medical expert on June 12 for a sleep apnea seminar. The free event, while geared for health care workers, is open to the public.

‘Ambulatory Home Diagnostics for Obstructive Sleep Apnea: An Interdisciplinary Model,’ co-hosted by Adel’s evo Medical Solutions, highlights Giora Pillar, M.D., D.Sc., from Haifa, Israel.

The seminar will address state-of-the-art sleep diagnostics, co-morbidities, the significance of early diagnosis and improving treatment. Dr. Pillar can also answer other questions related to the basic physiology of sleep, sleep disturbances and sleep apnea. He said the talk will most benefit physicians, physician assistants, nurses, respiratory therapists and other health care workers.

Dr. Pillar is a member of the American Board of Sleep Medicine and an associate professor at the Technion–Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, Israel. He is also the deputy director of the pediatrics department and the head of the unit for pediatric sleep disorders at Rambam Medical Center in Haifa and a post-doctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School.

The presentation will be held in the Des Moines University Student Education Center, 3300 Grand Avenue, in room 115 from 1 to 4 p.m.
