(Des Moines, IA) – If you have always wanted to tour a great graduate school without an admissions counselor at your side, this is your chance. If you’ve wished you could step into a lab to see students in action or see osteopathic manipulation in practice before picking your school, you can’t miss this opportunity.
Des Moines University (DMU), a medical and health sciences university offering seven graduate degrees, is opening its doors for college students and advisors to explore, observe and investigate the school. Wednesday, March 7, from 3 to 6 p.m., is Discover DMU Day.
“Discover DMU Day was developed as a chance for Iowa college students and advisors to see our school unfiltered. It’s an opportunity for the students to choose what most interests them and prioritize where to spend their time while on campus,” explained Margie Gehringer, director of enrollment at DMU.
Des Moines University president, Governor Terry Branstad, and college deans will speak at 3 p.m. and a health professions fair will begin at 5 p.m. In between those times, visitors are encouraged to map out their own course for the day.
Some of the options for discovery include a chance to examine the lifelike cardiac simulator, discover the high tech analysis used in the Human Performance Lab and sit in on a suturing session and laparoscope demonstration. Also an option is the chance to experience the simulated clinical setting students train in before entering a real clinic. Demonstrations of casting and osteopathic manipulative medicine in practice will also be ongoing through the afternoon. Current DMU students will be on hand for those who prefer a tour guide for their trek around campus.
