Watch Des Moines University students show off lesser-known skills, raise money for “Shoes That Fit”
(Des Moines, IA) – Tonight’s show at Des Moines University will include a harmonica-playing physician, mandolin player, juggler, viola, guitar and piano performances, some lip synching acts, poetry reading and even a traditional Indian song performance. Admission is only $5 and goes directly to Des Moines’ Shoes That Fit charity. No RSVP necessary!
The third annual Pediatric Club Variety Show at Des Moines University is open to the public and is sure to provide more than a few chuckles. Appetizers will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the show will begin at 7 p.m. The Friday show will be held in the Des Moines University Olsen Medical Education Center, 3200 Grand Avenue.
“The Pediatric Club has been actively involved in the community through various activities including working with Shoes that Fit. Last year we raised more than $800 for local organizations,” explained Audra Ramsey, Pediatric Club vice president. “The money will benefit many children here in Central Iowa. This project impacts the well-being of a community I have called home for 24 years and I feel great about that.”
Hoping to raise at least $1000 for elementary students in need of shoes, the group has asked their fellow classmates to show off musical, vocal, physical, visual, magical, lyrical, emotional and theatrical talents. So far, performers include one lip syncing student, a mandolin player, a few guitar acts, piano players and perhaps even belly dancers and a harmonica-playing physician from the DMU Clinic. Last year’s event was uproariously funny and raised awareness and money for Shoes That Fit.
