(Des Moines, IA) – A group of faculty and students from Des Moines University recently earned first place for an outstanding poster abstract at the American Podiatric Medical Association’s (APMA) National Scientific Conference in Philadelphia.
The poster was authored by Robert Yoho, D.P.M., dean of the College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, Simon Geletta, Ph.D., a faculty member in the public health program, three recent graduates, Dr. Nic Dodson, Dr. Wendy Nethery and Dr. Marie Keplinger, and two current Des Moines University students, Adam Johnson and Robert Greenhagan. The team earned $1000 with the honor.
“The APMA National Scientific Conference is one of few opportunities to showcase podiatric medical research on a national level to the podiatric world. The expectation from the profession is for individuals and institutions to conduct research on a continuous basis designed to respond to clinical questions,” Dr. Yoho explained.
The poster reflected the group’s research into the relationship between vitamin D in diabetic patients with Charcot foot disease. Their research suggests vitamin D levels should be measured in diabetic patients.
Posters must be chosen by the APMA scientific committee to even be presented at the conference. Des Moines University faculty, students and alumni presented seven of the 50 posters and two of the twelve oral presentations at the conference.
