(Des Moines, IA) – The public is invited to a free presentation about diversity, featuring Dave Pallone, at Des Moines University on February 21, beginning at 7 p.m.
Dave Pallone spent 18 years as a professional umpire including 10 years in Major League Baseball, authored a best-selling autobiography and hosted a sports radio talk show. His lecture-style presentation, “Who’s Really on First” will focus on how his sexual orientation affected his professional and personal life. He’ll end with a question and answer session.
“Respecting diversity of sexual orientation is as important as honoring diversity in gender, ethnicity, age, physical ability, religion or education. We are bringing Dave Pallone to DMU to share his story and educate our students, staff and community about how to best support people of all orientations,” said Lynn Martin, Ph.D., director of Des Moines University’s student counseling services.
The event will be held in the Des Moines University Student Education Center auditorium, 3300 Grand Ave. It will kick off with a performance by the Des Moines Gay Men’s Chorus.
