Take Pilates from DMU physical therapist, exercise physiologist

(Des Moines, IA) – Strengthen your abs, pelvic and back muscles through Pilates at Des Moines University (DMU).

The upcoming Pilates course at DMU is taught by Kari Smith, D.P.T., a trained Pilates instructor and physical therapist in the Des Moines University Clinic, and Carol Ruby, exercise physiologist from the Des Moines University Clinic.

The three upcoming 16-week Pilates courses begin March 25. Many in the classes are return students so an advanced course was formed. Beginners are welcome and are encouraged to register for either of the multi-level classes. Participants range in age from 20 to 70 years old.

The classes include plenty of repetition to improve participants’ movement abilities, as well as variations geared for differing skill levels. Class sizes are small so each participant gets personal feedback from Smith about correct movement patterns.

he classes will be in Des Moines University’s state-of-the-art wellness center at 3300 Grand Avenue. Each 16-week session costs $130, or $65 for Des Moines University alumni, faculty, staff and students. To register, visit www.dmu.edu/RSVP/Pilates. For more information about registering, contact Carol Ruby at 515.271.1717.
