Unite to grow understanding, fight cancer

Tomorrow at 7 p.m. (Iowa time), ABC, NBC & CBS will stand together to Stand Up To Cancer.  Tune into any of those networks to see it. A first-time event, the Stand Up project is funded by the American Association for Cancer Research and aims to bring together researchers in the fight to understand and beat cancer. By bringing famous faces and Hollywood dollars together, the tv component of this effort aims to shine a spotlight on cancer research.

At DMU we are hosting our own event for cancer awareness in September. The Katie Miller Young Adult Cancer Conference on Sept. 24 will bring together cancer experts, a panel of young cancer patients, local physicians and inquiring young minds. The event is named after Katherine “Katie” Miller, a DMU student who lost her fight to colorectal cancer in 2005 at the age of 26. The event is free, includes dinner and is open to all. Please RSVP by Sept. 19. The page includes a bio of Katie if you’d like to learn more about this inspiring young woman.
