On Saturday, buy handmade items directly from the artist/crafter/photographer at Craft Saturday on Dec. 6, noon-7, 216 4th St. in Des Moines. This is a regular event. I’ve gone and it’s really fun with great stuff. Check it out!
Enjoy 3+ miles of Christmas lights at Jolly Holiday Lights @ Water Works Park on Fleur Dr. It’s $9 per carload of people and the money goes to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. It runs through January 1.
Take a spin on the Brenton Skating rink downtown. It’s $3 for adults Mon.-Fri. before 8 p.m. or $4.50 on Friday after 8 or on Saturday. Children rates are cheaper. You can also rent skates there for $2.50. They also sell seasonal passes if you’re really into ice skating.
For $5 on Dec. 12 or 13 at Living History Farms in Urbandale you can learn how pioneers celebrated Christmas on the prairie.
