A couple of years ago, we began hosting Discover DMU — a campus-wide open house — and it’s been a huge success! We host events in March, July and September each year and it’s chance for you to see more than we can show in a brochure.
We usually have a variety of prospective students, current applicants, moms/dads/significant others, undergraduate advisors and curious neighbors stop by for these events.
If you’ve never had a chance to meet Governor Terry Branstad, here you go! The welcome session is kicked off with a greeting from Governor Branstad,DMU’s president, followed by an overview of all of DMU’s programs. We just do a brief overview here, because later in the day you’ll have the opportunity to speak with an admission rep from each program.
At the end of our welcome session, we split you into groups and each group goes on a tour to 4 or 5 locations. The tours are led by current DMU students, so you’ll have a chance to get their perspective on things too. The tour stops include our Anatomy Labs, the Human Simulation Lab (see photo!), the Surgery Lab, a suturing demonstration, OMM demonstration (see photo!), etc!
All of our groups stop by the health professions fair, designed to provide you specific information about all of our programs – admission requirements, tuition, application procedures and deadlines. We will have tables staffed for each program with an admission expert available to answer your questions and distribute info. We also make sure that our snack/dessert station is a stop on the tour as well!
If you’re thinking about applying to DMU, or just curious about what’s happening on our campus, I encourage you to join us for Discover DMU. The next Discover DMU event is March 4, 2-5 p.m.
