This weekend is one of my FAVORITE Des Moines events – the Arts Festival downtown. It’s so much fun to stroll around and enjoy amazing works of art. I’m so jealous of people with artistic talent and I love to soak in their creativity. There’s also live music, food vendors, crafts for kids and booths to get info on local organizations. This year there’s even a free concert by Gavin DeGraw and Collective Soul.
Much of the art is out of my price range but I still love to see it all. The young artist area is extremely affordable however and it’s fun to see emerging artists. So much of the fun is free though – the crafts and music and browsing doesn’t cost a cent!
Another art show this weekend, also a big annual event, is “The Other Art Show” at the fairgrounds. This has many local artists and the price range is lower. Dr. Gary Hoff, chair of the medical humanities and bioethics dept. at DMU, will actually be exhibiting/selling oil paintings at this show.
