Spooky times

It’s October already & that means there’s some spooky fun to be had!halloween

I can’t believe it’s October already!!  Get out the caramel for your apples and the goodies for lil goblins! Here’s a few Halloween-y events coming up I thought you might enjoy…

There’s an annual Des Moines event at the zoo called Night Eyes. It’s designed for families – not scary! It runs Oct. 15-18 & 22-25. If you buy tickets before Oct. 14 they’re only $3. Living History Farms is having family halloween nights too and it’s only $5 for admission.

For something that sounds scarier, probably not for the young’uns, there’s a new haunted house in town – Haunting in the Heights. I know nothing about it other than I drive by it every day and it looks huge!

Also, DMU always has a party for students, staff, faculty and their families. This year it’s October 29, 4-5:30 p.m. in the SEC commons. This year will include a beanbag tossing game, bowling pumpkins, pin the nose on the pumpkin, a haunted tunnel and pumpkin painting.  Each child that participates in the different games will also receive candy or an age-appropriate toy. Snacks such as cookies, popcorn balls, goldfish crackers and fruit punch will be available. Both children and parents are encouraged to dress up in their Halloween costumes for occasion. Students hope to be offering family photos.

Also, if you’re new to Iowa, take note: we trick-or-treat the night BEFORE Halloween… Don’t get caught off-guard or you might get frightened by minature goblins! Check the Register to find out what times to expect your doorbell to ring!
