It’s rare in Iowa to be this far into the winter season without seeing the white stuff or being completely bundled up. Still, you wouldn’t expect to be able to enjoy a farmers’ market in November! But you can! Friday & Saturday is the first winter market-version of the popular downtown Saturday event. Held indoors at Nollen Plaza, 400 Locust St., there will be tons of food and craft vendors. You can get in for the lunch hour preview, 11-2, on Friday, or enjoy it 9-1 on Saturday. It’s very fun & festive. You may find a lot of locally-grown or made items for holiday gifts. Definitely check it out!
Other awesome holiday-related events this weekend include the annual holiday promenade in the East Village beginning at 5 on Friday. The Des Moines Ballet will perform, the Brenton ice skating plaza will open and you can enjoy shopping and carriage rides.
Also, you can attend an open house in Valley Junction Thursday, the 19th, for extended shopping hours, a beautiful light display, carolers in the street, the jolly red elf himself AND horse & carriage rides.
On Friday & Saturday, 8-5, West End Architectural Salvage is having a holiday open house. Free wine & cheese, plus 20% off the whole store!
