Des Moines University was honored with the Des Moines Human Rights’ Business & Industry Award at yesterday’s Des Moines Human Rights Symposium.
Nancy Bobo, chair of the Des Moines Human Rights Commission, presented the award to Des Moines University’s interim president, Stephen Dengle, and DMU trustee Willie Stevenson Glanton.
Bobo said the university was chosen for demonstrating a commitment to human rights, providing ongoing medical and service outreach to the community, and sharing education and health care with the world.
“We are honored by this award and will continue to do what we can in our community,” Dengle said. “Serving the community is part of our mission and we strive to live it every day.”
The 24th annual Des Moines Human Rights Symposium was sponsored by the Des Moines Human Rights Commission, Greater Des Moines Friends of Human Rights, Inc., and the Iowa Civil Rights Commission. It was held at Des Moines University.
