Rachel Firkins graduated from Drake University with a B.S. in biology and a B.S. in neuroscience in 2009. She became interested in research when working as a student research assistant in Dr. Julia Moffitt’s lab at Des Moines University while still attending Drake. She spent her research time investigating the Effects of Vagus Nerve Stimulation on the Threshold and Incidence of Aconitine-induced Cardiac Arrhythmias in the Anesthetized Rat. Following the completion of her undergraduate work Rachel enrolled in the master of biomedical sciences program at Des Moines University. She is currently working under the direction of Quang-Kim Tran, M.D., Ph.D studying vascular endothelial functions. After graduating from Des Moines University with her Master’s degree she aspires to have a career in Alzheimer’s Disease research.
