Public invited to noon presentation by Iowa native
(Des Moines, IA) – Des Moines-born author Robert V. Morris will be speaking Friday, February 4, at noon, in the Des Moines University Student Education Center, 3300 Grand Ave. The event is free to the public.
Morris released his book, “Black Faces of War, A legacy of Honor from the American Revolution to Today” on January 15. He was born in Des Moines, graduated from the University of Iowa and was named as one of the “50 most influential Iowans of the 21st Century” by the Des Moines Register in 2000.
He will be speaking at Des Moines University (DMU) from his perspective as part of a family steeped in military tradition. He is proud of his lineage as part of the African-American experience of war.
“As part of our effort to increase the cultural awareness and sensitivity of our students, we bring speakers to campus to share their knowledge and experiences from a non-majority perspective. Des Moines, may not reflect the cultures many of our students will one day practice in. We hope to increase our future health care professionals’ cultural knowledge, sensitivity and understanding to enable them to provide the best possible care to their future patients,” said Lynn Martin, Ph.D., director of DMU’s educational support services.
