Sunday, April 17, marked the beginning of National Osteopathic Medicine (NOM) Week! Through April 23, members of the osteopathic medical profession come together to focus on one common goal—increasing awareness of osteopathic medicine and D.O.s in communities across the country.
The American Osteopathic Association suggests these three ways you can contribute to NOM Week:
- Take the NOM Week Pledge – During NOM Week, the AOA asks D.O.s and osteopathic medical students to take the NOM Week pledge to talk to current and future patients about the importance of exercise in treating and preventing illness. The pledge demonstrates our commitment to good health and preventive care – a cornerstone of osteopathic medicine. The pledge launches today.
- Promote D.O.s to the public – A number of NOM Week resources are available to help promote D.O.s in your community. Log in to the members-only area of Osteopathic.org and visit the OPAN section under “Advocacy” to view the available resources, including press releases, a city proclamation template, and more. Or order the public education brochures “What is a D.O.?” and “Osteopathic Medicine” to distribute to patients. To order, call the Member Service Center at 800-621-1773, option 1.
- Join the Osteopathic Public Awareness Network (OPAN) to promote D.O.s year-round – Show your support by joining this network of affiliate and individual members who are committed to helping spread the D.O. message. Send an e-mail message to pr@osteopathic.org today.
Visit AOA’s NOM Week website section for more information and resources for promoting this great profession!
