The College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery has experienced success over the summer in the area of scholarship/research. Kathy Frush, D.P.M. ’05, and Lori Steiner, D.P.M. ’10, were published in the July/August edition of the Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association (JAPMA). Shevonne Wells, D.P.M. ’11, and Dr. R. Tim Yoho were published in the September/October issue of JAPMA. JAPMA is one of only a few peer-review podiatric medical journals.

In addition, Dr. Yoho, Dr. Vassilios Vardaxis, Geoffrey Kraemer, D.P.M. ’13, and Gavin Ripp, D.P.M. ’11, received the third place award in the category of case studies/small research projects at the 2011 APMA National Scientific Meeting held in Boston, July 28-31. The project titled, “A retrospective review of the effect of metatarsus adductus on bone healing time in the proximal fifth metatarsal Jones fracture,” was one of 80 scientific poster abstracts submitted for consideration.
Faculty and students of CPMS have received an award for research activities at the APMA national meeting for the past five years. The College was also recently informed that the submission by Drs. Yoho, Vardaxis and Valerie Tallerico, D.P.M. ’10, titled, “The relationship between academic achievement and clinical performance in podiatric medical education at DMU,” was accepted for a podium abstract presentation at the Group on Educational Affairs (GEA) Digitized Poster Session held in conjunction with the 2011 American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) Annual Meeting to be held in Denver from November 4-7.
