Branstad, Franklin to discuss public health strategies

National Public Health Week 2012This year the theme for National Public Health Week, April 2-8, is A healthier America begins today: join the movement! The focus is on prevention and wellness as ways to combat chronic diseases that many Americans suffer from every day. In support of the theme, the DMU Master of Public Health Student Club (MPHSC) is encouraging the DMU community to do something well today! Here are some ways alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends can get involved.

Come to an event

On April 6 at 12:30 p.m., Iowa Governor Terry Branstad and DMU President Angela Franklin, Ph.D., will discuss strategies for community health improvement, the importance of public health, and the steps that the state of Iowa and DMU are taking to promote public health and to motivate citizens to help improve the health of our communities. The event is free and open to the public in the DMU SEC Auditorium.

Participate online

Anyone can share healthy ideas online! Post a picture, video or text of any healthy activity that you complete and reveal your accomplishments to the DMU community around the world. Each person who submits a post will be entered into a drawing for incredible prizes.

Support the MPHSC by purchasing a t-shirt that will remind you of the importance of physical activity every time you wear it! T-shirts will be on sale during National Public Health Week in the SEC or you can email dosomethingwelltoday@gmail.com for ordering instructions. T-shirts are $15.
