Emeritus faculty member named Pediatrician of the Year

David Leopold, D.O.The American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians (ACOP) awarded the 2012 Harold H. Finkel Community Pediatrician of the Year Award to David W. Leopold II, D.O., FACOP, a DMU emeritus professor of pediatrics. The college, meeting in Memphis, TN, for its annual spring scientific session, announced the award at its award celebration on March 24, 2012. Leopold was chosen for this award for his unstinting loyalty to pediatrics and to the ACOP and for his contributions to the pediatric profession through his practice, teaching and administrative expertise.

A graduate of Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine, Leopold completed his pediatric training in Grand Rapids, MI. He is a past member of the ACOP Board of Trustees as well as past president of the organization. He has delivered the Watson Memorial Lecture to the college and has twice been recognized with ACOP Distinguished Service Awards. Leopold served as professor of pediatrics at the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences, now DMU, from 1980 to 1997, and currently practices clinical pediatrics at the Arizona Family Care Associates in Sierra Vista.

The Harold H. Finkel Community Pediatrician of the Year Award honors the memory of Harold H. Finkel, D.O., FACOP, who practiced exemplary pediatrics and served the ACOP and his community throughout his lifetime.

The ACOP is the official osteopathic pediatric specialty college of the American Osteopathic Association. The college serves 600 osteopathic pediatricians and 1,800 osteopathic medical school students through continuing medical education opportunities, government relations and mentoring.
