Holt is an emergency and family medicine physician at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, IA, and is also trained in tropical medicine, which he puts to use two to three times each year on trips to Uganda. Holt began traveling to Uganda five years ago after being trained in tropical medicine at Tulane University and receiving a scholarship from Yale University. He sees many patients with HIV and its effects, tuberculosis, hepatitis B and C and malaria. Holt started the Caring Hands Foundation, a faith-based, nonprofit organization providing free medical, social and economic support to people in Uganda.
