Rustmann, a colonel in the Air National Guard and commander of the 147th Medical Group, Ellington Field, Texas, was one of only two Reserve/Guard physicians selected last year to serve as the flight surgeon and medical officer in support of the Antarctica Scientific Project at the McMurdo Station in Antarctica. He arrived in the South Pole on November 21, 2012.
