Cynthia Hoque, a Des Moines University osteopathic medical student, received the Medical and Health Related Scholarship from the Branstad-Reynolds Scholarship Fund. Hoque was presented with the $4,000 award by Governor Terry Branstad on February 6. The scholarship recognizes Hoque’s commitment to practicing medicine in rural Iowa.
The Branstad-Reynolds Scholarship Fund was established by Governor Branstad and Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds to support Iowa students pursuing a degree in the fields of agriculture, medicine, or health and children of service members who gave their lives while on active duty since September 11, 2001. The scholarship fund was created by trimming costs at their inauguration in January of 2011, receiving private donations and giving a portion of ticket sale proceeds to the fund.
