Dr. Kari Smith, PT, D.P.T., ATC is an assistant professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at Des Moines University. She graduated from Des Moines University with a Master of Science degree in physical therapy in 1998 and with a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2004.
Dr. Smith has been manager of the DMU Physical Therapy Clinic since 2005. She has a background in athletic training, sports related injuries and general orthopedic conditions. Dr. Smith is also a Stott certified Pilates instructor and integrates these concepts into her back stabilization programs. She has recently completed advanced training through the American Physical Therapy Association for pelvic physical therapy specializing in the treatment of incontinence and pelvic pain for women, men and children. She has been trained in the use of sEMG biofeedback and visceral mobilization for the treatment of these conditions. In addition to direct patient care and administrative duties, Dr. Smith maintains teaching responsibilities within the entry-level D.P.T. and PPDPT programs.
