The College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery held the 20th Annual Recognition and Rite of Passage Ceremony on Saturday, April 13, in the Student Education Center. More than 200 people were in attendance to recognize the students, professional clubs and Class of 2015 for various achievements.
Students from the Class of 2015 received academic awards in the basic science courses. Members of the Pi Delta Podiatric National Honor Society from the Class of 2014 were recognized for their overall exceptional academic performance. All class and club officers were acknowledged for their many contributions as student leaders of CPMS.
The 2013 CPMS Club of the Year was awarded to the student chapter of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons under the leadership of Brandy Hooper, D.P.M.’15. James Whelan, D.P.M.’14, was named the the 2013 CPMS Student of the Year. Whelan won the award along with a $500 scholarship for his exceptional performance in the areas of academics, service and scholarship. Ashley Bruno, D.P.M.’14, and Lisa Grant, D.P.M.’14 were also recognized for their nominations.
The highlight of the evening was the recognition of the 52 members of the Class of 2015 for their success during the first two years of the podiatric program in preparation for the formal clinical component of the curriculum. Students received the CPMS pin and recited the Humanism in Medicine Oath in unison with Kevin Smith, D.P.M., associate dean for clinical affairs, as a pledge to their continued commitment to lifelong learning and compassionate patient care.
