Robert M. Roth, D.O.’76, FACEP, became active in the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and its Tennessee chapter shortly after graduating from the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery, now DMU. For his leadership and service ever since, the ACEP Council will present to him its Meritorious Service Award on Oct. 13.
The award is presented to an ACEP member who has served as a councilor for at least three years and, in that capacity, has made consistent contributions to the growth and maturation of the ACEP Council. The council is the forum in which chapter and section of membership representatives elect and provide guidance to the ACEP board of directors.
An emergency medical physician with Tristar Summit Medical Center in Hermitage, TN, Roth has served as an ACEP councilor or alternate for more than 20 years. He has served on the council steering, finance, teller and bylaws committees. He also has served the Tennessee chapter in every office, including as president and current board member.
Now chair of the chapter’s careers and membership committees, Roth was responsible for the development of the chapter’s bylaws and “has played a pivotal role in the growth of our membership,” stated Thom Mitchell, M.D., FACEP, president of the Tennessee College of Emergency Physicians, in his nomination of Roth for the award.
“His commitment to pediatric and children’s issues is demonstrated by his representation of the chapter on the Tennessee Committee of Pediatric Emergency Care and the National Readiness Act,” Mitchell added.
