Unrein was installed in August 2013 as the president of the Colorado Society of Osteopathic Medicine. He was president of the Colorado Medical Society from 2003 to 2004 and president of the Colorado Society of Internal Medicine in 1998. He is board certified in internal medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), and board certified in hospice and palliative medicine by ABIM and the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. A fellow of the American College of Physicians, Unrein will be inducted as a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists in October 2013. He is a full professor of internal medicine at Rocky Vista University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine in Parker, CO, and a full clinical professor of internal medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Aurora. He practices nursing home medicine and hospice and palliative medicine.
