Food Day is a national celebration and a movement for healthy, affordable and sustainable food. DMU students will mark the year-round campaign with a special event to spark mindfulness about what we put in our mouths.
This Thursday, Oct. 24, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the SEC Auditorium, the DMU Masters of Public Health Student Club and the Preventive Medicine Club invite all DMU students to dinner and a panel discussion about healthy and sustainable living in the health care field. Dinner will be provided to the first 50 attendees by Bridgewater Farm, a local and sustainable family farm near Bridgewater, Iowa.
Food Day was created by the Center for Science in the Public Interest, but according to the Food Day website, “it is powered by a diverse coalition of food movement leaders and organizations, including student leaders, public offices, school districts and local organizers.” The campaign’s call to “eat real” is an effort to counter our rising rates of disease linked to the typical American diet, its toll on the environment, “inhuman conditions” for farm animals and low wages for food and farm workers.
Gain some great food for thought this Thursday!
