James Hollis, Ph.D., assistant professor of the Sustainable Food Processing Alliance at Iowa State University, presented at the October 25 Friday Research Seminar Series on the topic, “Does how you eat influence appetite and body weight regulation?” Hollis’s presentation described the physiological basis of body weight regulation and the role ingestive behavior plays in it. Hollis holds a Ph.D. in biological sciences and was a post-doctoral researcher in the Department of Foods and Nutrition at Purdue University. He worked at Queen’s University in Belfast, Northern Ireland, before joining Iowa State University in 2008. His research interests concern the effect of diet or ingestive behavior on appetite control and body weight regulation. Hollis is currently conducting studies relating to the influence of mastication, taste compounds and resistant starch on appetite.
