Emily Cardella, PA’14, typically rides her bicycle to class from her Windsor Heights home and often pedals recreationally. When she learned from friends about Central Iowa Bike Month and the Bike Commute Challenge held every May, she nominated DMU for the competition. “I know quite a few people who bike to class,” she says.
Apparently they do: DMU won the challenge and a plaque in the category of public agencies with 500-plus employees (in the University’s case, employees and students). The promotion is organized by the Des Moines Bicycle Collective, a nonprofit corporation that promotes cycling as viable, healthy transportation.
