Is your stress stressing you out?
Do you ever feel like you have too much to do and not enough time?
Although it is only a few weeks into the spring semester, it seems like classwork, friends, family and work can really start piling up. It is important to manage your stress in a healthy way, instead of unhealthy ways. You know we all do it – staying up all night studying, chowing down on chips, and drinking highly-caffeinated sodas. But what if there was a better way to handle stress?
Try taking time out of your busy day and devoting it to an activity you love doing. Even if it is just for five minutes, you will experience a productivity and energy boost. Here are some fun and relaxing de-stressing ideas for recharging your batteries:
- Listen to your favorite music
- Watch a movie or show
- Enjoy a warm cup of coffee or tea
- Play with a pet
- Go for a walk or jog
- Take a relaxing bath
- Cook or bake something (healthy, of course)
- Light a few scented candles
- Call a good friend
- Write in a journal
- Go outside and enjoy nature (when it gets nicer, that is!)
- Get a workout in
These are just a few ideas on how you can show your stress who’s boss! For additional ideas, members of the DMU community are invited to register for “Monopoly: Stress Management Edition” by Feb. 24: This six-week program will incorporate a different stress management technique every week along with a challenge. Compete in a race around the board for prizes and see if YOU can manage your stress the best!
