The fifth annual Des Moines University Foot and Ankle Surgery Symposium on April 25_26 brought to campus more than 190 attendees and exhibitors from the Midwest region. They spent the two days deepening their understanding of core topics related to restorative techniques of foot and ankle surgery, evaluating surgical and non-surgical treatments using the latest evidence-based research, and post-surgical rehabilitation and physical therapy modalities.

The symposium covered a broad spectrum of foot and ankle surgery topics including difficult wounds, first ray, painful heel, pediatric foot, sports injuries and trauma. New this year, the event included physical therapy topics and local physical therapy providers who spoke throughout the event. Each presentation thoroughly reviewed the literature, demonstrated new techniques and explored risks, benefits and complications of various procedures.

The annual event was hosted by Des Moines University’s College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery (CPMS) and the Continuing Medical Education department.
