Des Moines University has joined Iowa Campus Compact (IACC), a statewide association of college and university presidents committed to the public purpose of higher education, civic engagement and service-learning opportunities that engage students and impact communities. DMU is the 23rd member of the association.
“Des Moines University seeks to join Campus Compact to learn with and from other institutional leaders who are committed to fulfilling the public and civic purposes of higher education by educating students for active citizenship and building strong communities,” said President Angela L. Walker Franklin. “We believe by participating in Iowa Campus Compact, we can develop a more strategic approach to community partnerships and address complex health-related issues.”
Campus Compact is a national organization founded in 1985 to help colleges and universities create support structures for community engagement. IACC was formed in 2003 by faculty and staff of Iowa colleges to join the national movement to foster the integration of civic engagement and strengthen communities.
