Coming to you live on “Love” from St. Lucia

Summer.14.St.Lucia radio

Three participants in DMU’s health service trip to St. Lucia this spring got to be radio celebrities in addition to health care providers: Katarina Conradson (in the photo above, center) and Julie Fleener, physician assistant students, and Jolene Kelly, MPAS, PA-C’96, program director/chair (in the photo at right), were asked to discuss women’s health in a weekly one-hour program, “Doctors in the House,” on Love-FM 103.9.

The program is sponsored by St. Jude’s Hospital, which periodically hosts DMU groups. Love-FM, the number-one radio station on the Caribbean island’s southern half, streamed the program live via webcam in addition to broadcasting it.

“We had people writing in and calling in with questions. We didn’t realize that we were being streamed live until about three-quarters of the way through the show,” says Kelly. “When some of the people called in questions, we had such funny looks on our faces as we were trying to understand what they were saying – especially if they were speaking French patois.”
