Race toward downtown, take a lap around the Pappajohn Sculpture Park and run back uphill to the Des Moines University campus at Run DMU. The eighth annual event kicks off on Friday, September 11, at 5:45 p.m. with pre-race stretching yoga provided by Studio B Yoga, followed by the 5K race at 6:30 p.m. in front of the University.
Run DMU provides a scenic route and a 1.6-mile climb up Grand Avenue that’s befitting of a medical school. Post-race osteopathic manual medicine (OMM) treatments, physical therapy screens, foot screenings and first aid are available to participants at the finish line along with food, drinks and prizes.
“Des Moines University is committed to promoting health and wellness in the community. Run DMU was recently endorsed by the Healthiest State Initiative, which directly aligns with that commitment,” said Gretchen Johnson, assistant director of alumni relations.
Registration is $30 for adults and $15 for kids 12 and under. All proceeds benefit the DMU Fund, an investment in the education of health care professionals at Des Moines University. Runners, walkers, strollers and pets are welcome. Awards will be given for each age category and overall winners. For more information and to register, visit www.dmu.edu/run.
