Des Moines University is offering free health screenings to adults 50 and older at its annual Senior Health Fair on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 8 a.m. to noon. DMU students, faculty and clinicians will administer the screenings and interpret the results, giving seniors a complimentary medical assessment and information to share with their health care provider.
The “50 & Better” Senior Health Fair was recently named one of 16 “age-friendly good practices” by AARP International, which identified initiatives around the globe that made communities age-friendly and residents healthier. The event combines screenings with informational booths promoting health and well being, and connects seniors to community resources.
Services include medication reviews, foot exams, nutritional information, osteopathic manual medicine treatments, bone density scans, cholesterol testing and much more. Healthy cooking demonstrations, dancing and exercises are also provided in a friendly, social atmosphere.
