On Friday, February 12, Des Moines University Development and Alumni Relations hosted the first of many 2016 events. Over 130 DMU alumni and friends attended the alumni reception at Fogo De Chao Brazilian Steakhouse in Austin, Texas.
At the event, DMU proudly recognized Sean Grambart, D.P.M., FACFAS ’01, as President of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. DMU Board of Trustee member, Nicki Nigro, D.P.M.’89 was the MC for the evening, and President Angela Franklin provided a University update and shared a video showcasing DMU.
“Hearing first hand from President Franklin about what’s happening and the goals is a great direct connection to the University,” says alumna Danielle Butto, D.P.M.’12. “What I like about the event is the opportunity to meet students, build relationships, and offer mentorship. Reconnecting with classmates and people from the years above and below you is a great reason to attend.”
DMU student Kelsey Millonig, D.P.M.’17, was at the ACFAS Annual Conference and attended the alumni event. She indicated how important these opportunities are for students. “Alumni events are an exceptional opportunity for students to network and learn about residency and practice management from mentors who have invested in the same education that we have.”
Overall, the event was filled was laughter, stories, and pride as DMU alumni socialized throughout the evening.
We’re looking forward to planning more events in the upcoming months in an effort to bring DMU to your area. We hope you will join us soon. Check out our website to see events near you.
