On Wednesday, June 22, the Development and Alumni Relations Department hosted its 6th annual event at Jasper Winery in Des Moines, Iowa. Over 100 alumni and community members came together to enjoy wine, camaraderie, and learn more about Des Moines University (DMU). Entertainment for the night was live music by Brian Congdon, and amazing food was served on the outdoor patio by Trostel’s Catering.
President Angela Walker Franklin, Ph.D., welcomed guests and recognized Board of Trustee members who were present, including Steve Morain, Marcia Hammers, Drs. Mike Witte, Mary Radia, Larry Baker; and newest member – Mike Helak. Additionally, she recognized Glanton Steering Committee members in the audience – Suku Radia, Gerry Neugent, Marcia Hammers, and Dr. Larry Baker. During the evening, President Franklin announced for the first time in the 13 year history of the Glanton Dinner, Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield will serve as the Presenting Sponsor. She also highlighted reasons to be “DMU PROUD” and the impact DMU has on our community and state.
DMU’s newest alumni members, graduates from the Class of 2016, were present and recognized during the event. Jeremy Cordes, D.O.’16, shared his journey to Des Moines University and his appreciation of the quality education he received. “DMU stood out to me because of its reputation in educational excellence and its strong commitment to rural medicine in Iowa,” said Cordes. He recently started his residency in Family Medicine at Broadlawns Hospital, and ultimately wants to serve a rural Iowa community upon completion of his residency training.
The Jasper Winery event continues to grow in participation and has proven to be a great opportunity for alumni and community members to come together and learn more about the institution.
Special thanks to alumnus Paul Groben, D.O.’75, and his wife Jean who own and operate Jasper Winery.
