DMU students can hone skills in mock interviews, Nov. 8

The DMU Health Leaders Club are all about networking and professional development, and an event the club is hosting on Nov. 8 is an example of that: From 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. that day, Rachel Gustafson, M.H.A.’11, the physician/provider recruitment manager, and her colleagues at UnityPoint Clinic in Johnston will offer students mock interviews, resumé reviews and feedback on how they do.

Practice your interview skills on Nov. 8.

In addition, the UnityPoint team will give a presentation at 6 p.m. on general tips for constructing a strong resumé, the process from applying for a position to landing an interview, how to come prepared and insights on contract negotiations. Students also can network with the UnityPoint recruiters prior to the presentation, from 5 to 6 p.m.

UnityPoint Clinic is the multi-specialty group that employ most of the providers of the UnityPoint Health system. The Health Leaders Club hosted this event for the first time last year, and it was very popular among students.

“We’re honored to be coming back. We’re recruiters, so we’re social,” Rachel says. “We like to give students the opportunity to ask questions, learn and connect with us. Some of them end up being candidates for us.”

Last year students “asked really good questions and were ready to learn,” she adds. “They take feedback really well.”

The mock interviews will be conducted in the Student Education Center (SEC) study rooms by appointment only. The presentation will take place in SEC 115.
