Alumni came back for a memory-fueled Reunion

We were honored this past week to have the members of Class of 1969, 1979 and 1994 on campus to celebrate and participate in Alumni Reunion 2019! And from what they said, reunion participants were thrilled about the experience.

“From the hole in the wall when it started to what DMU is right now is absolutely sensational,” reflected Charles Rudd, D.O.’69, who attended the institution when it was the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery located in downtown Des Moines. “But the friendships we have here can’t be beat.”

Classmate Brian Beck, D.O.’69, agrees. “We had a small class, and we did so many things together. Coming back for the 50-year reunion is just a fantastic thing,” he says.

From May 22-24 DMU welcomed alumni back to campus to see how much their alma mater has grown up over the years, to reconnect with friends and to take a trip down memory lane.

Reunion festivities kicked off with a welcome reception on Wednesday evening. Alumni spent the following dayon campus reconnecting with friends and classmates for campus tours, the university picnic, and a student panel, followed by a guided bus tour of the city. That evening, all alumni were recognized at the Medallion Ceremony where they received their certificate and medallion to commemorate their years in medicine. On Friday, our esteemed alumni attended the 119th Commencement ceremony.

“We stayed up till 12 o’clock every night, talking,” said Steve Mann, D.O., a member of the Class of 1979. “We’d shut the restaurants down, the chairs would be folded up and we were still in the middle of our conversations.”
