DMU College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery alumnus named chair of national medical regulatory organization

Scott Steingard, D.O.’86, recently assumed leadership of the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) as the organization’s chair.

Established in 1912, the FSMB is a national nonprofit organization representing all 70 medical boards within the United States and its territories that license and discipline allopathic and osteopathic physicians and, in some jurisdictions, other health care professionals.

Steingard has played a key role on numerous committees for the FSMB that develop policies influencing medical regulation and practice in the U.S. He recently chaired the FSMB’s Workgroup to Study Regenerative and Stem Cell Therapy and also served on its Workgroup on Physician Wellness and Burnout, which developed influential policy recommendations on the epidemic of physician burnout in the nation.

Steingard was a longtime member of the Arizona Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners in Medicine and Surgery, including serving as that board’s president from 2009 to 2016. In addition to his service with the FSMB and Arizona Osteopathic Board, he was the longtime medical coordinator for the Fiesta Bowl and was team physician for various high school, college and professional organizations.
