Eric So, D.P.M.’15, AACFAS, was on a team of researchers whose work was featured in the nationally acclaimed Physician’s Weekly in July. The team’s research was the first to quantify the relationship between ankle fractures among elderly patients and bone mineral density (BMD).
In the article, titled “Ankle Fracture as a Predictor of Osteoporosis,” Dr. So summarized the team’s findings: “Assessing bone mineral density in elderly patients who suffer ankle fractures can be an important consideration in the perioperative management of an ankle fracture.”
A related review article, “Association between bone mineral density and elderly ankle fractures: a systematic review and meta-analysis,” of which So was lead author, was published in the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery.
So is a fellowship-trained foot and ankle surgeon at Capital Foot and Ankle in Lincoln, NE.
