John “Jack” Wood, D.O.’76, FACEP

John “Jack” Wood, D.O.’76, FACEP, is an emergency physician retired from clinical practice after 44 years. He completed a residency in emergency medicine at Los Angeles County and University of Southern California Medical Center, where he was chief resident. He also was chair, medical director and chief of staff of two emergency departments in the Sacramento area. Wood served for seven years in the U.S. Air Force and was a physician informaticist for Dignity Health San Francisco and, for 25 years, a senior oral examiner for the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He currently serves as a health care consultant to a large school district. The founding medical director of the nation’s largest private paramedic and emergency medical technician training college, he continues to be the medical director for several EMS agencies in the Sacramento region; chair of the credentials committee and bylaws committee for Dignity Health’s five-hospital system in the greater Sacramento Division; and a clinical professor in the College of Medicine, California Northstate University.
