Leonard Mermel, D.O.’84, ScM, AM (Hon.), FSHEA, FIDSA, FACP, leads a startup, Bak and Mermel, that was selected to participate in the New England Medical Innovation Center’s “Activate” cohort. Activate, which NEMIC hosts in partnership with R.I. Commerce Corp., is a seed-funding preparation program that provides early-stage medical technology and digital health startups. Mermel is the medical director for the department of epidemiology and infectious disease control at Rhode Island Hospital and professor of medicine at Brown University.
