Robert Smith, D.P.M.’99, M.Sc., R.Ph., FNAP, gave two lectures at Desert Foot 2022, a multidisciplinary wound care, surgical and limb salvage conference held Nov. 30-Dec. 3 in person in Phoenix. His lectures were titled, “Prescribing and monitoring opioid analgesics within and oasis” and “Prescribing and monitoring opioid analgesics within a quagmire.” Smith’s research centers on infection prevalence, infection control and wound care. He is a consultant to the National Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners and a contributing editor and reviewer to the Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association in areas of podiatric clinical pharmacology. He has authored more than 100 refereed journal articles in the disciplines of pharmacy, podiatry and wound care. His sole practice, Shoe String Podiatry, is based in Ormond Beach, FL. Smith also is the founder and president of Studying Opioid Harm Inc., a nonprofit educational company that develops tools to educate and mitigate harm from opioids. Smith has been chair of the Podiatric Medicine Academy of the National Academies of Practice since 2020.
