President Franklin became DMU’s 15th president in spring 2011 and has received several honors since then. Under her leadership, in December 2018 the university launched the Purple & Proud Campaign, the largest fundraising effort in the university’s history. Less than one year later, DMU began building the medical and health sciences university of the future from the ground up on 88 acres of land at 8025 Grand Ave. in West Des Moines. DMU’s 10 academic degree programs and departments will move to the new campus this summer, while the DMU Clinic will continue serving patients at 3200 Grand Ave. in Des Moines.

President Franklin is actively involved in the Des Moines community and in graduate medical education organizations. In 2022, she was honored by the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine with the Dale S. Dodson Award in recognition of her significant contributions to the advancement and support of osteopathic medical education. She also was inducted last year into the Iowa Business Hall of Fame, which honors the achievements of Iowans who have made outstanding contributions to the development and enhancement of the state’s business climate.
