Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences is set to host its 2024 Research Symposium on Nov. 21, 2024, at 8025 Grand Ave., West Des Moines. This annual event, open to faculty, students, staff, members of the regional medical and scientific community and high school students, will spotlight the innovative research conducted across multiple disciplines at DMU and beyond.
This year’s symposium theme, Path Forward: Technology-Driven and Patient-Centered, highlights DMU’s commitment to advancing health care through the integration of cutting-edge technology and a focus on patient outcomes. Pravin Mishra, Ph.D., M.B.A. executive director of research and symposium chair, says the event fosters collaboration and drives translational research.
“Our goal is to not only showcase our faculty and students’ research findings but also to provide a space for networking and generating new ideas,” Mishra says. “Through interactive sessions and roundtable discussions, our goal is to stimulate thought and innovation across various disciplines.”
This year marks the exciting launch of the Young Scientist Program, which invites high school students from across Iowa to participate in the symposium. These students will have the opportunity to present their research posters and engage in hands-on research activities. This inaugural initiative reflects DMU’s commitment to nurturing future leaders in health care research.
The symposium will also feature a keynote address from Yogesh Shah, M.P.H.’13, MD, FAAFM, DMU’s 2021 College of Health Sciences Alumni of the Year and a renowned expert in geriatric care and geriatrics section chief at Broadlawns Medical Center.
“The 2024 Research Symposium will provide a platform for DMU to engage with the broader Des Moines research community, fostering partnerships that can advance health care innovation,” Mishra says.
